I didn’t get an alert
On iPhone: open Settings, then Notifications, then FreezeAhead, and turn on Allow Notifications. If you use Do Not Disturb, Sleep or another Focus, allow FreezeAhead or turn on Time Sensitive notifications for it; Hard Freeze alerts are sent as Time Sensitive. Turning on Background App Refresh for FreezeAhead (Settings, then General, then Background App Refresh) helps it stay current.
On Android: open Settings, then Apps, then FreezeAhead, then Notifications, and turn them on. If you use Do Not Disturb, allow FreezeAhead as an exception. Battery savers can delay updates; on the same FreezeAhead screen, set Battery to Unrestricted if your phone offers it. The exact names vary by phone maker.
Then open FreezeAhead so it can get a fresh forecast. The Alerts tab lists every alert that is scheduled. Alerts are scheduled on your phone ahead of time from the latest forecast, so if the forecast changes after your phone last updated, an alert can be early, late or missing.
Why does it say a spot is outside coverage?
FreezeAhead uses National Weather Service forecasts, which cover the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Spots in Canada, Mexico and other countries can’t be added.
Which temperatures trigger alerts?
Near freezing: above 32°F, down to your alert line (35°F unless you change it). Freeze: 32°F or colder. Hard Freeze: 28°F or colder; change it in Settings, then Advanced. Hard Freeze alerts always come through, whatever your alert line is.
How far ahead does it look?
FreezeAhead downloads the hourly forecast, which runs about a week ahead, and schedules alerts for the next three days. If the forecast hasn’t updated for 36 hours, it sends one reminder to open the app.
Does FreezeAhead track my location?
No. It reads your location once, only when you tap Use my current location to save a spot, and it never asks for location access in the background. It doesn’t follow you as you travel, so when you move, update the spot or add a new one.
My widget is blank or out of date
Open FreezeAhead once and add at least one spot. Widgets update several times a day on a schedule your phone controls, and right away whenever you open the app.
Do I need an account?
No. There’s nothing to sign up for.
How do I delete my data?
Everything is stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes your spots, settings and alerts. On Android you can also clear it without uninstalling: Settings, then Apps, then FreezeAhead, then Storage, then Clear storage.
I got a new phone
Download it again with the same Apple ID (App Store) or Google account (Google Play). You won’t be charged twice on the same store. Spots stay on the old phone, so add them again. A purchase on one store doesn’t carry over to the other.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by the store you bought from. App Store: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose Request a refund, and pick FreezeAhead. Google Play: follow Google’s Request a refund on Google Play steps. If Google can’t help, email us.
